More about me…

I am a Mum of two boys; Zac and Beau. Adam is my partner, and we live in Poulton-le-fylde with our dog Bella. I’m originally from London, and I moved a lot. It wasn’t until I met Adam and we had our children that I settled in Lancashire in 2008.

It was my dream to open a Yoga Studio, I wanted to create a space where everyone would feel welcome and comfortable, no matter their level of experience, I wanted it to be a place where people could connect, grow, and find peace. In 2016 I opened Yoga Blackpool and I’m very proud to say the studio is thriving and only gets better with age!

With all that is going on in our world today, it’s more important than ever for each of us to find ways we can support our health and wellbeing. In response to this growing need in 2022 I launched Yoga at Home, we are a supportive growing community from all walks of life prioritising our wellbeing.

Yoga has been in my life for over 20 years, like most people I tried out different “styles” of yoga with different teachers and I dabbled with personal practice but lacked in confidence. In 2000 I began a regular Iyengar Yoga practice at the Liverpool Iyengar Yoga Studio with Judi Sofa. This was my first time practicing in a Yoga studio. I loved and cherished the atmosphere, it felt like a sacred space to me. After my first class with Judi I knew I had found a great teacher - I left that class feeling elated. I spent the following years attending classes and workshops regularly and began to develop confidence in my personal practice. I learned a great deal during this time and I’m forever grateful for the exquisite teachings I received.

In 2006 I travelled to India for the first time. I spent a month in Kerala at the Shanti Bhavan Yoga and Massage Centre. I practiced yoga every day, early in the morning and again in the afternoon. I took Ayurveda treatments and got a taste for real Indian cuisine! This was a beautiful introduction to India; I was in love! The following year I visited again for 3 months, I began my trip in the North, in Rishikesh, and made my way south and back north again. I practiced yoga in Ashrams, beach shalas and Buddhist meditation centres. It was an incredible experience that I remember like yesterday!

In 2010 I began my enquiry into teaching yoga and completed the Inner Yoga Trust’s year long Foundation course in Manchester. The Inner Yoga Trust is inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, this was a new and informative approach to working with Asana for me. Then my 2 children came along, and I took a break from training.

In 2012 I enrolled on the Yogacampus teacher training programme, known for its non-dogmatic and authentic approach and range of expert teachers. One of my teachers on this course was Jane Craggs who first introduced me to a breath led practice. This opened yoga to me in a whole new way and led me to my teachers today. After 18 months of study and practice I completed my 200-hour Yoga Alliance accredited Yoga Teacher Training Diploma and I have been teaching yoga ever since.

In 2016 I met Mark Whitwell for the first time in Crete on a weeklong retreat. Mark has taught yoga for over three decades, and is the editor and contributor to TKV Desikachar's book The Heart of Yoga. Mark teaches an authentic yoga practice for the individual, based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar, with whom he enjoyed a relationship for more than twenty years.

In 2017 I completed The Heart of Yoga Teacher training with Mark in Mainz and in 2019 I spent five days in Manchester with Mark on his first UK visit in years! Mark’s teachings are empowering, loving, and relevant to modern life. I continue to learn with Mark and the Heart of Yoga, most recently through The Heart of Yoga Online Studio.

In 2019 I began taking one to one lessons with Paul Harvey in the Cotswolds. Paul Harvey has been a student and teacher of the personalised application of Yoga, as well as other Indian traditions for over four decades. Paul is a direct pupil of TKV Desikachar through personal lessons in South India for over 20 years. The one-to-one lessons and small group workshops I attended with Paul provided a valuable opportunity to deepen my own personal practice and have given context and meaning to Yoga Practices and their relevance in modern life.

In 2021 during lockdown I decided to embark on a children’s yoga teacher training online. I decided to learn with Star Child Yoga. The course has its roots deep in yoga and education, moving from simple to more complex in nature as it moves through the ages. The teachings don’t use games and stories; instead, we use yoga and education to teach children.

In 2002 I attended online courses in yoga, Self Knowledge, pranayama, mantra and mudra with Rachel Zinman and John Weddephol. Rachel also mentored me supporting my teaching skills and personal practice.

In 2023 I began deepening my meditation and mindfulness practice with the Mindfulness Network. I have embarked upon their internationally renowned training pathway to teach mindfulness-based programs in collaboration with the Mindfulness Centre at Bangor University.

I’m grateful to my teachers who have generously shared knowledge, wisdom and inspiration, I will always do my best to represent the teachings and my teachers respectfully, honestly and from the heart.
